Who was the scariest bowler you ever faced?
Pace-wise and for fear of getting hurt, a lot of the West Indies bowlers were pretty intimidating to a batsman. Sylvester Clarke didn’t play many Tests for the West Indies but he was the quickest bowler I’d ever come across when I was playing county cricket for Somerset as a 20-year-old. He bowled these thunderbolts non-stop and was hitting people left right and centre in the head [a fierce right-armer, Clarke died of a heart attack in 1999]. Others were Curtly Ambrose, Wasim Akram, Allan Donald. But if I had to pick the most intimidating guy, it would be Sylvester.
