Yes, county cricket has started in England in April, of all things, but surprisingly it's been very warm, especially in the south, with summer-like temperatures for the first round, which got under way this weekend....
Chesney Hughes of Anguilla only made 12 in the first innings for Derbyshire against Gloucestershire, but he did better in the second innings, making 60. However, his team, which followed on, looks to be on the verge of defeat.
Jamaica-born Lion Maurice Chambers took match figures of 5-120 for Essex in their match against Kent, while Antigua-born Robbie Joseph, who's on the other side, has taken two wickets to date.
Ruel Brathwaite and Gareth Breese are not featuring in Durham's match this weekend, and neither did Chris Jordan for Surrey. Corey Collymore for Middlesex also didn't play in their one-dayer yesterday.

Chris Jordan hasn't played for a year already due to a bad back injury, lord knows when he's gonna play again and if Surrey will keep him on, Ruel Brathwaite used to play for CCC but rumour has it he felt he was treated fairly when he was with them so decided to go back to England, to his credit he's done well when he's played for Durham,
Hughes only got 12 runs in his first innings but done much better in his second by getting 60 runs, also bowled some overs too and kept things tight.
With two county teams playing in the recent Caribbean T20s and also the English lions playing in our four day competition i wonder whether more of our young prospects will be popping up in the county league soon? i guess we'll have to wait and see, it's tough when you know England could nick them from under our noses!! .

of the english based players Chambers is already a citizen of england so he is out
Ruel Braithwaite is already 25 years old with 30 wickets @ 43
Robbie Joseph is 29 yers old..130 wickets at 32
Chris Jordon at 22 has a batting av of 24...45 wickets at 40 apiece
of the names listed only Chesney Hughes suggests he has anything to offer westindies...or england.. as a world class player. and I will bet all my disposable money, regardles of anything to the contrary so far, he will choose to play for england

feels good to see colleymore still at it. seems so much time has passed it is a shock to realise Corey is still only 33 years old.
I used to pound him as a test player but he is one tough, determinned player..a credit to the westindies.

Great returns by Robbie Joseph, who took 4-25 in the second innings, and 6-52 in the match....
Kent beat Essex by 57 runs....
Maps makes a very good point. The returns of Joseph, Brathwaite and Jordan are not brilliant, and it's questionable whether they would make the Leewards, CCC and Barbados teams, much less the Windies. As Hildreth pointed out in his recent interview, the standard of Caribbean four-day domestic cricket is comparable to county cricket, so these guys are hardly likely to be of Windies material any time soon.
As for Hughes, he's unlikely to make the England team, because the batting places are a closed shop. For example, Carberry scored tons of runs in last year's county season, and all he got was one Test, so I don't think Hughes is anywhere near the pecking order. However, if Hughes accepts West Indies selection, that might jeopardise his place in the Derbyshire county side, and that might be the factor that militates against him expressing an interest in playing for the Windies any time soon. The same reason would probably pertain to the cases of Jospeh, Brathwaite and Jordan too, if they were good enough....

In matches starting today, it's Corey Collymore vs Maurice Chambers in Middlesex against Essex, Robbie Joseph turns out for Kent against Northants, and Chesney Hughes plays for Derbyshire in their match with Leicestershire....

What happened to Ruel Brathwaite then? i thought he was a fixture in the Durham team now?
The continued absence of Chris Jordan must be a concern!!..i'm gonna try and find out what his status is,
Hopefully Chesney will get himself another 50 at least, when that kid is confident he can stay at the crease for hours.

Yeah, Durham are just not giving any playing time to either Ruel Brathwaite or Gareth Breese....
Chambers hasn't taken any wickets so far, and Middlesex are eight wickets down. Joseph made four not out batting at 11 for Kent, and he's opening the bowling now, so that's a promotion of sorts....
Hughes is batting now, and he's six not out in Derby's score of 69-2.
Middlesex all out for 277, and Collymore went for a duck, batting at 11. Chambers finished wicket-less....
Hughes is out for 16....
I hope he does better in the next innings.

Essex are reeling at 70-5, as Collymore and Murtagh take two wickets each....
Robbie Joseph has taken one Northants wicket so far, as they go five wickets down.
