Bridgetown, Barbados, April 16 –(http://www.bcacricket.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) – Marlon Samuels and Kirk Edwards both looked in fine touch as they hit half-centuries in the first of two West Indies Twenty20 practice matches at the 3Ws Oval here today.

Samuels, fresh from an outstanding regional first-class season during which he amassed the most runs all told (853) for Jamaica, who retained the title for the fourth straight year, slammed 63 off 38 balls to help Dwayne Bravo’s XI to 164 for five off 20 overs.

Batting at No. 4, Samuels struck five fours and three sixes.

Dwayne Bravo weighed in with 46 off 28 balls, hitting three sixes and two fours.

Barbados fast bowler Fidel Edwards, seeking a recall to the international arena after absence of over a year-and-a-half because of a back injury, took two for 16 off three overs.

Bravo’s XI won by 11 runs as Smith’s side were restricted to 153 for five.

Barbadian Edwards, who opened, made 56 off 42 balls with four boundaries and two sixes. He and Smith (36) added 92 in 11.1 overs for the first wicket but then the batting fell away before diminutive wicket-keeper/batsman Carlton Baugh scored a desperate 28 not out off 19 balls.

Medium-pacer Dwayne Bravo led by example, picking up two for 27.

The match was in preparation for the imminent home series against Pakistan, which includes a one-off Twenty20 International, five One-Day Internationals and two Tests.

Bridgetown, Barbados, April 16 – (http://www.bcacricket.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) – Lendl Simmons struck a purposeful 72 and Kirk Edwards made another half-century in the second of two West Indies Twenty20 practice matches at the 3Ws Oval here today.

Opener Simmons counted five boundaries and three sixes in his 53-ball knock, which spurred Darren Sammy’s XI to a five-wicket win over Devon Smith’s XI with four balls to spare.

Chasing 134 to win, Sammy’s side were helped by Simmons and Sammy who put on 74 in 8.3 overs for the fourth wicket.

Both then fell in quick succession. Sammy, who scored 26 off 21 balls, edged fast bowler Kemar Roach, who was operating from around the wicket at the southern end, to wicket-keeper Carlton Baugh and in the next over, Simmons was bowled by medium-pacer Kevin Stoute.

Earlier, the tall Edwards followed a knock of 56 in the first match, with an equally confident 57 off 46 balls in a total of 133 for five. Again opening the batting, Edwards drove sweetly down the ground, striking eight boundaries.

Leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo picked up two for 19 and pacer Andre Russell, two for 26.

The matches were in preparation for the imminent home series against Pakistan, which includes a one-off Twenty20 International, five One-Day Internationals and two Tests.
