Lendl Simmons today to my mind reflects on the quality of Gibson as head coach.
a proper assement of his side would have led him to understand that Simmons was the man to anchor the innings...or does Gibbo not plan for a batsman to anchor an innings, to ensure a decent total is achived, everytime westindies starts?
all the batsmen shud know this so that if the designated anchor falls early who is the next man to fill in that role until the job is acomplished.
so with Smith as the second opener or the first whichever..given his weakness against spin the ancho role falls to Simmons the in-form opener.
so if simmons gets going then Gibbo by whatever form of communicatios he can organise must remind simmons of his role, reinforce it, for simmons would have known from the outset.
there is an unplanned, pell-mell nature to westindies batting that is shocking given that we have a head coach assisted by several assistants, who together ought to have a plan in place for the batting that educates batsmen in batting and approaches to innings that sees a flexibility or roles as to the purpose as an innings progresses.

another point is Kirk Edwards. the way he go bowled today was sacriligeous for a top class batsman.
but Edwards was a known spin challenged quanity by the end of the WC. there were 3 weeks to prepare him to do better before the arrival of the Paks.
Edwards has shown no imporvement in that 3 period, he is an utter incompetent when it comes to the pak spin..an easy out.
same with Devon Smith...indeed with all westindies batsmen ro some degree or the other. and this has been so for a long time now.
westindian deficiency against spin should be the first concern of any wastindian headcoach not all the comes' Gibbo has been involved in since his arival, yet westindies are as awful as ever against spin.
and there has been no improvement in the pace lines as well..
what the hell then is the use of a head coach then if for all he is paid there is no improvement in deficient areas of the westindian game..especially in the areas longstanding of deffiencies?

Brathwaite batted through the innings and said he was pleased with his effort.
“Every time I get a chance to bat I see it as a golden opportunity. From the start I was looking to bat through the innings and I knew once I did that we would get a good score and get the lead,” said the right-hander, who has made two first-class centuries.
Kraig Braithwaite displays the perfect attitude and intelligence such as Simmons desperately needs.
Braithwaite is 19 and knows already. Simmons is 27 but it is not too late fuh him to learn. westindies need him to be smart, to advance from the half batsman he is to the real deal

Actually Brathwaite JUST TURNED 18 A FEW MONTHS AGO!!
, and yet it's amazing to see that he's probably already better than Smith, i wouldn't be surprised if he gets called up for the Tests if Barath doesn't make it back,
The more i look at Gibbo the more concerns i have, we can't keep losing and blaming just Sammy (even though he's clearly not good enough) , the coach is there to improve the players and get results, and thus far he's only improved a handful of bowlers and he's not winning many matches, if we get whitewashed in this series then he must go imo.

and we will get whitewashed in this series. we will be lucky to even draw one, even if India sends an A side.
I am hoping that they include the seniors again and that shive has a bit more to give..not necessarily big tons but solid building innings around lil Bravo, Barath etc.
I am really disappointed that Gibbo cud have upset Sarwan so easily. man wat sort of weak-willed fella Sars is?
leadership is critical...but who?
to me the leadership issue shud be raised with the players and that they shud be allowed to select the one they want from among their ranks.
but there is no way this elitist wicb would allow the players any such freedom. its their 'right' to impose a leader an deh wont give it up...even for the good of the team
