Berbice closed on 312-8, a lead of 30 after Demerara made 282. After a rearguard effort from Richie Looknauth earlier in the day gave Demerara’s innings some much-needed impetus, the bowlers responded with some early wickets, reducing Berbice to 47-4. Seam trio Christopher Barnwell, Ronaldo Ali-Mohamed and Qumar Torrington shared the wickets, as openers Javed Karim (3) and Adrian Sukwah (1), Jonathan Foo (16) and Anthony Bramble (0) were all dismissed cheaply. The right-handed Anderson, batting at three, then stitched together three important partnerships to rebuild the innings, leading the front with positive intent. Anderson and Kevin Sinclair, who made 22, added 66 for the fifth wicket, before Romario Shepherd (15) joined him in a sixth wicket stand of 32. Anderson and Junior Sinclair then shared 84 for the seventh wicket, during which Anderson brought up his century. He was eventually dismissed for 106 off 194 balls (13x4s) at 229-7. J. Sinclair and skipper Veerasammy Permaul subsequently shared a 50-run partnership for the eighth wicket of which the latter contributed exactly half the runs. Nial Smith joined J. Sinclair and the pair safely negotiated the dying stages of day two, taking their team pass Demerara’s total during an unbroken partnership of 33. J. Sinclair is eyeing a century on 84 off 117 balls (9x4s, 4x6s), while Smith is not out on 15 off 36 (2x4s). Bowling for Demerara, Barnwell took 2-42, Ali-Mohamed 2-63 and Looknauth 2-68. Earlier, Demerara resumed on 228-9 and found an unlikely batting hero in Looknauth, who converted his overnight 19 to a brilliant 67 not out. More known for his spin bowling, Looknauth dominated a last wicket partnership of 54 with Torrington, whose contribution was just six. Looknauth’s innings spanned 84 balls and included seven fours and three sixes. Bowling for Berbice, Permaul took 4-59 and Kevin Sinclair 2-49.
