Guyana expected to submit bid to host World T20 matches in 2024

Guyana is the only territory to have hosted matches at all of the ICC tournaments held in the Caribbean since 2007. With success at hosting the Men’s 50-Over World Cup (2007), Men’s World T20 (2010), Women’s T20 World Cup (2014), and Under-19 World Cup (2022), Guyana could be a host for the next ICC event in 2024. A bid by Guyana is expected after Cricket West Indies informed that they currently undertaking a thorough bid process for Caribbean countries wanting to host the event. According to CWI, following the bid process, the venues will be confirmed on 31 July 2023. Countries have been required to demonstrate their ability to deliver a world-class venue and stage the matches by providing match and training facilities, undergo a venue inspection, provide immigration, customs, medical and security support, as well as other operational and logistical requirements including accommodation for the members of the teams, match officials and broadcast crew. ImageAs it stands, Guyana is the only territory to have hosted matches at all of the ICC Tournaments hosted by Cricket West Indies since 2007 Visits to Caribbean venues that are contemplating submitting proposals to host ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 matches started April 26. A small team will visit each country to look at facilities and discuss the pathway to becoming a host country. News Room was informed that officials were in Guyana this week conducting visits. A similar process will also be followed to identify venues to host matches in the USA. Countries selected will have the opportunity to promote themselves to a global audience of over one billion people from all over the world. CWI indicated this tournament will also inject significant investment into the economy of each host nation.
