'Describing it as a "good feeling" to be named Barbados' Sports Personality for 2011, new national captain and West Indies Test batsman Kirk Edwards has attributed his success to hard work in the face of constant challenges. "It is a good feeling knowing that people recognise your achievements throughout the year and (it is) satisfying that the hard work has paid off," Edwards told the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) website yesterday after completing a three-hour practice session with the national team at Kensington Oval in preparation for the imminent Caribbean Twenty20 tournament in Antigua & Barbuda and Barbados. The 27-year-old Edwards performed outstandingly in his first year as a Test player, scoring a century on debut against India in the third and final match in Dominica in July en route to amassing 595 runs including two centuries and three fifties, at an average of 54.09 in six Tests.'

"Veronica Campbell-Brown looks set to walk away with her fourth RJR Sports Foundation Sportswoman of the year award in the last six years, while the Sportsman of the Year award will trigger another Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake showdown at tonight's ceremony at The Jamaica Pegasus. Campbell-Brown, the 200m gold and 100m silver medallist from last year's IAAF World Champion-ships in Athletics in Daegu, South Korea, seems a safe bet to claim her second straight Sportswoman of the Year award....Like they have been doing all off season, training partners Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake will once again square off for top honours, with the 200m World Champion Bolt seen by many as the favourite to claim his third title in four years. In addition to finishing last season unbeaten, Bolt, the IAAF Male Athlete of the Year, also registered the fastest time in the 100m, 9.76, bettering the previous best, which was registered by countryman and fellow nominee Asafa Powell, the Diamond League 100m champion. Blake, who won gold in the 100m at the World Championships, returned a few weeks later to post the second-fastest 200m time in history, 19.26, threatening the 19.19 world record established in 2009 by Bolt."

"Sprinting megastar Usain Bolt was last night named Jamaica's top sportsman for 2011, while fellow track star Veronica Campbell-Brown and cricketing dynamo Stafanie Taylor shared the female honours at the RJR Sports Foundation Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year awards ceremony at The Jamaica Pegasus in New Kingston. Taylor's recognition makes her only the second cricketer to win top honours in the female category in the 50-year history of the award ceremony, after Vivalyn Latty-Scott's victory in 1976. The 19-year-old had another excellent year in 2011, playing her way to the ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year award. She also ended the year as the number one ranked all-rounder in the world, number two in batting and number seven in bowling in the World One Day rankings."

and naturally, walcott is the favourite to win trinidad's sportsman of the year award....

http://www.trinidadexpress.com/business ... 86716.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and it seems he's won it:

so, already we have a track and field athlete winning an individual sportsman of the year award over a cricketer regionally.
