C576&ssl=1" />The team from Region One (Barima-Waini) took the top spot in Track and Field at the annual Amerindian Heritage Games at the Everest Cricket Ground on Thursday. The first is always the best and Region One would remembered for their dominant performance in the inaugural edition of Track and Field at the Games. They soared to 279 points as usual champions for Track and Field, Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Berbice), was second with 252 points, while Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), 202 points, got third. Region Five (125 points), Region Seven (57 points), Region Six (44 points) and Region Two (35 points) rounded off the top seven. 
There was strong support for athletes According to Mohamed Nazim, Coordinator of the Heritage Games, there was some hesitation about introducing Track and Field to the Games, but he is overwhelmed with the response and promise shown. Nazim hopes that from this exposure, more scouting can be done for the “exceptional talents.” The Heritage Games continue today at Everest, with action turning to Cricket, while Football will continue along with Swimming and Archery.
