'Reigning Olympic 100m champion, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, has for years toyed with the 200m, but has never run it at a major championship. However, she looks set to tackle the sprint double at the 2012 London Olympics slated for July 27 to August 12. Fraser-Pryce, who has a personal best 22.15 seconds over 200m, admitted to The Gleaner that she wants to run the event. "Yes, I want to do the 200 metres," Fraser-Pryce expressed. "The likelihood is there, I can't tell you if I am a 100 per cent sure, but it is something that is in the talks between me and my coach. "I am definitely looking forward to doing the 200m and qualifying for it at the national trials, then look forward to it at the London Games," she added.'

'Olympic 400m hurdles champion Melaine Walker is set to open her 2012 season at this year's 11th staging of The Queen's Grace Jackson track and field meet which will be held at the National Stadium on Saturday, January 28. However, Walker, who won the silver medal at last year's World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, will compete in the 800m. Walker said she will be using the race to assess her fitness level. "It is fairly early in the season and usually at this time we only compete in the 800m," said Walker. "It is not something that I love, but at the same time it is part of practice and it is a part of becoming who you are, so I am looking forward to it." Apart from Walker, her MVP teammates, Olympic 100m winner Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, 2005 World Championships 100m silver medallist Michael Frater, and World University Games 100m champion Carrie Russell are also down for their season-opener.'

"OLYMPIC 100m silver medallist Sherone Simpson threw down the gauntlet to her sprint rivals after winning the Women 400m Open in 51.42 seconds, just outside her personal best of 51.25, at the Queen's/Grace Jackson Meet at the National Stadium yesterday. Simpson, 27, using the 400m as part of her strength work, won ahead of MVP teammate Anneisha McLaughin (51.89) and hurdler Nickesha Wilson (53.94). Beijing 2008 Olympic 100 champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won her heat in 55.72."

'Melaine Walker, the 2008 Olympic and 2009 World 400 metres champion, had a close early battle with MVP teammate Sherika Williams in their 200m heat before the latter pulled away to win in 23.12, a good time for this early in the season. Walker was second in 23.46 and Shereefa Lloyd was third in (23.65). Walker, who won the 400m hurdles silver medal at last year's World Championships, in Daegu South Korea, said she was very delighted with the execution of her race. "I am very pleased and I am also excited because it's a long time since I have done any sprints and so I did well today in my 200m race," said Walker. Michael Frater, a finalist in the men's 100m Beijing and a relay gold medallist at the same Games, ran 21.54 for third in heat one of the men's 200m behind the winner Edino Steel of Racers Track Club (21.23). Rusheen McDonald of (UTech) finished third in 21.53. Allodin Fothergill of Racers Track Club sped to a best time of 47.00 seconds in the men's 400 metres to emerge the overall winner. Other leading times were returned by Palacio Castillo of the High Performance Centre (48.80) and national sprinter Dexter Lee of Swept Track Club (49.30).'

"IAAF World Championships 100m gold medallist Yohan Blake turned in a scintillating run yesterday to lead his Racers Lions team to victory in the Men's Clubs and Institutions 4x100m relay finals in a world-leading 38.48 seconds at the 36th running of the Gibson Relays at the national stadium. Taking the baton from Mario Forsythe in third place, Blake turned on the burners as he cruised past training partners Racers TC, 38.76 seconds, and MVP, 38.76, to defend their title from last year."

"He described it as a "good, little run", but Yohan Blake's blistering 9.90 clocking in the men's 100m, done in pouring rain at Saturday's fifth staging of the University of Technology (UTech) Track and Field Classics inside the National Stadium, was much more. Blake, helped along by a +1.6 m/s wind, recovered from a 'so-so' start to stamp his class on the field and register the fastest time in the world over the distance so far this season. It was a positive end to a productive shift for the 100m world champion, who had earlier run a monster leg on the backstretch to help power the Racers Track Club - anchored by double Olympic champion and world record holder Usain Bolt - to an emphatic win in a meet record 37.82 seconds in the Invitational 4x100m ahead of the Asafa Powell-anchored MVP team, which clocked 38.27."

"KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) Usain Bolt won the 100 meters in 9.82 seconds in the Jamaica International Invitational on Saturday night, a month before the sprinting powerhouse's Olympic trials. The crowd cheered wildly when Bolt won in his first 100 of the year, giving him a standing ovation after the race that had two false starts. The time was the fastest in the world this year."
