It was a Jamaica 1-2 in the mens 50m as Asafa Powell won in 5.64 seconds and Nesta Carter came second in 5.67. Americans Trell Kimmons and Justin Gatlin came third and fourth respectively. Veronica Campbell-Brown made it a 50m clean sweep when she won the women's equivalent in 6.08, ahead of American Jessica Young (6.20). Trinidad's Renny Quow won the men's 600 yards in 1:11.20, ahead of Bershawn Jackson of the US (1:11.31).

Next up is the Russian Winter indoor meet in Moscow, and Kim Collins of St Kitts is down to take part in the men's 60m....

At the Calais indoor meet, Jamaican Lerone Clarke won the men's 60m in a time of 6.50 ahead of Christophe Lemaitre of France 6.57 and another Jamaican Michael Frater 6.62.

Laverne Jones-Ferrette of the US Virgin Islands won the women's equivalent in a time of 7.14.

"Powell set tongues wagging with a 5.64 50m in New York at the end of January and the powerful Jamaican will be keen to confirm he is a serious contender indoors when he takes on Lerone Clarke, the current world leader over 60m plus two other compatriots in Nesta Carter and Michael Frater. American Trell Kimmons and the ever-willing Kim Collins head the non-Jamaican challengers, while Britain's Andrew Robertson will test himself against the world's elite after finishing second to Dwain Chambers at the UK championships. Tiana Madison will be looking to confirm her form in the women's race after leaping to the top of the world rankings with 7.02 last weekend. The American, a world long jump champion back in 2005, faces Bianca Knight, who won here last year, Ivet Lalova of Bulgaria and Jamaican Aleen Bailey. As for Robles and Xiang, it will be the first time the pair have faced each other since the World Championships in Daegu last summer, where Xiang took silver after Robles was disqualified, despite finishing first. Robles currently trails Xiang 7-5 in head-to-head contests, and the Cuban is looking to level the score by the end of the World Indoors in Istanbul. Xiang is making his first appearance at the NIA since taking World Indoor bronze here in 2003 as a fresh-faced 19-year-old. The line-up also includes American's Aries Merritt and Dexter Faulk, plus Britain's new young champion Andy Pozzi."

'If anything Clarke's 60m flat sprint victory was less predictable after Powell had equalled his world lead in the heats with 6.50 ahead of Kim Collins. Not bad for his first race at the distance for seven years. But Clarke and Nesta Carter weren't to be outdone as they ran neck and neck to cross the line just a fraction slower in 6.51 and 6.52 respectively, setting up a mouth-watering final. It didn't disappoint as the three Jamaicans strained neck and neck down the straight. Clarke was quickest out of the blocks and in the end that was enough as he took the verdict on the line in 6.47 while Carter pinched second from Powell, 6.49 to 6.50. "I’m grateful to do it, especially to get a national record," said Clarke. "Asafa Powell, Nesta Carter, they’re all fast guys so to come here and win is fantastic. I knew that all I had to do was get out of the blocks and drive hard, get up and run home, and it didn’t matter who was out front, just focus on me."'
