Holding slams cash-driven Windies

Former West Indies paceman Michael Holding has hit out at the state of cricket in the Caribbean, claiming some players are more concerned about waiting for their "pay day".

"Guys don't have faith in West Indies cricket," he added. "The guys are going out into the field and waiting until pay day - these guys today are not interested about history and the country."

"Kieron Pollard of the West Indies has never played a Test match, he's played 50 one-dayers, got one 50 and averages less than 22 runs. In IPL he averages less than 12 but can get 12 off two balls, so they want him in the IPL playing for $800,000.

"Why would he go into nets and try and bat properly to earn $100,000 for West Indies? The ICC needs to be in charge and manage the amount of cricket being played and how much money."
Wait...this is the same Holding that abandoned West Indies cricket for Packer's money? :) I'm not picking on Holding, just happen to run into a few of his articles...

holding is not addressing the situation as broadly as he should. not doing so he is just a noisy, impetuous legend, who cant keep sensibly quiet, but must broadcast his limitations for all to see and get tied-up in.

westindian players do not fall from coconut trees! they are bred and reared in the westindies. if they are assholes the society made them that way. indeed whatever way they are the society made the call and set them up accodingly

if holding wants a better type of player then he must see how that can be done and lets us know. he must also get himself involved administratively in the Yard or the region to make a contribution in creating what he sees that may be the answer.

eff holding, up in an ivory tower somewhere, making noise and tossing down prescription. no doctor can examine a patient from afar, know whats going on, send medicine and still stay far!

eff him! pay no attention to the narrow, limited noisy skunt!...until he hops off his hoss, joins-in and get his hands dirty....eff holding

Hey, Pollard can earn the money he wants as a 20/20 cricketer, but to frank he was rubbish as an ODI cricketer for the WIndies in the last two series. here were his stats:

Vs Zimbabwe
Five matches, total of 87 runs @ average of 17.
Vs South Africa
Five matches, totaly of 134 runs @ average of 27.

This A team tour was a chance to improve himself as a 50-overs player, and regain his place. Now, I hope the WI drop him from the ODI side, and look for a replacement.

However, I wouldn't have a problem if he's selected for the WI as a 20/20 player only. The question is, do you waste a central contract on a 20/20 specialist?
:?

WI made it clear that the 35 players with contracts are the future. Why else would they have a contract? :) Below is the list of players with West Indies retainer contracts... Why WI is not selecting from the contracted players, such a Riefer, Richards, Simmons, Tino Best, Powell? Why they are after Pollard for now while they fully well know that he has a contract with Somerset? So now they want him to play without notice and expect him to drop his contract   KP has my support going with Somerset cause if WI was interested in KP then he should have a retainer contract. WICB is so shortsighted eh? :) Now it's the player faults eh?

GUYANA:
Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Narsingh Deonarine, Travis Dowlin
TRINIDAD & TOBAGO:Dwayne Bravo, Darren Bravo, Denesh Ramdin, Ravi Rampaul, Adrian Barath, Lendl Simmons
BARBADOS: Floyd Reifer, Fidel Edwards, Sulieman Benn, Kemar Roach, Ryan Austin, Tino Best,
Kraigg Brathwaite, Kevin McLean, Omar Phillips, Dale Richards, Dwayne Smith
JAMAICA: Chris Gayle, Jerome Taylor, Dave Bernard, Brendan Nash, Andre Creary, Nikita Miller, Chadwick Walton
WINDWARD ISLANDS: Darren Sammy, Andre Fletcher, Devon Smith
LEEWARD ISLANDS: Lionel Baker, Nelon Pascal, Kieran Powell, Gavin Tonge

yeah, the WICB offered some contracts to some dodgy players, like Reifer....
Now, the question arises; do you give a central contract to a 20/20 specialist? The good thing is that a precedent has been set. Dave Warner plays only 20/20 cricket for Australia, and is a 20/20 specialist. Does he have a central contract for Australia? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think so....

http://www.cricinfo.com/world-twenty20- ... 57930.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

'One slight disappointment for Warner is the lack of recognition from Cricket Australia, who left him off their list of centrally contracted players for 2010-11, despite his integral presence in the shortest form of the game. Earlier this week, Michael Clarke voiced his concerns on the subject, pointing out that playing Twenty20 cricket was the ultimate for players such as Warner who haven't cemented their places in the more established forms of the game. "You go away on all these trips playing Twenty20 cricket, but the only way to get a contract is by being upgraded to Test or ODIs," Warner said. "I believe that if you play one form of the game for Australia, you should be rewarded with one of those central contracts, but I reckon that's going to come in the next year or so. Meanwhile, any opportunity I get to play for Australia, I'm going to grab with all I can and try to do my best." '

Pollard is making hay while the sun shines.... :D Pollard will rep WI in all forms of the game.. Let him ply his trade and gain some more experience. Pollard should have a contract but the WICB was playing di fool and now they looking like one to give contracts to those dodgy players :)

They want KP to give up a lucrative contract to play some curry goat matches for peanuts
