If the Windies do not want to lose players to the IPL the next time they tour England they better climb up the test ladder so England give them the second half of the summer.
Of course WI may not be touring England for some time and by then the world may have changed drastically.

Well I am not too sure when Wi are scheduled to tour England again.DMan wrote:What you mean by the 'world changing drastically'? World coming to an end in 2012!!!
By then WI cricket might no longer exist, or the IPl could go belly up, or......the possibilities are endless

Ain't gonna happen....
We're stuck with May-June and a clash with the IPL as far as English cricket is concerned. And since the ECB is being intransigent, like NZ, we're just going to have to send weakened teams to England for these series.

the historical precedent says the IPL..and or the principle it represents.. will prosper and grow and force the ICC to adjust or die .
the IPL already constitutes a heavy blow to the continuing chances of the ICC.
it may in time be even a dying blow but we shall see.
but the ICC, made up of all the neo colonial domestic cricket boards in the world will not prevail. all-together they are an old anachronistic institution, out of sync with the needs of the current period of time.
the old and pointless, irrelevant and inefficient must pass away to be replaced by the new and more efficient. if that does not happen in all humanity does, with human life itself, we are toast and we will pass out of existence ourselves.
that is a simple principle of existence
piss on the ICC. it is waiting on the final shove that will kick it out of the way. the Indians are playing the arse themselves pu**y-footing in their historical mission to kill the creaking, freakin' old ICC

In the words of Mr Lorgat:
But despite the risk of players choosing the IPL over representing their countries, the ICC remains opposed to the idea of incorporating the two-month tournament into the Future Tours Programme. Lorgat, whose tenure in charge of the ICC finishes at the end of June, said creating a window for the IPL would set a dangerous precedent.

Lorgat, whose tenure in charge of the ICC finishes at the end of June, said creating a window for the IPL would set a dangerous precedent.
"The consequence of that [an IPL window] is what do we do with the Big Bash League?" Lorgat said. "What do we do with other premier leagues - Sri Lanka is launching one, Bangladesh has one. I know people might say the IPL is the premier league, but once you provide a window for one particular member, you have to be conscious of the fact you may well have to do it for other members. Hence why we have not been supportive of a window specifically for any one of those domestic leagues."

test match cricket is too onerous and too 'un-renumerative' to the players to keep them happy in the face of very profitable alternatives.
that is obvious to everybody. the money in cricket in the hands of the ICC and its affiliates sticks to the various administrations in too great quantities leaving too little for the players under great demand to tour and tour and tour...
the players are left exhausted pressurized and insecure in most cases save the Oz and English. as the T20 competitions grow and become cash cows for the players they will chose them over representation or their nations.
we can also expect as a step along the way, players freeing themselves from local control so no exemption/permission from their domestic authorities are needed for them to play in any competition anywhere.
that is restraint of trade and wont stand-up in any court anywhere in the world. the domestic cricket admins will soon no longer make a living from exemptions by carving out a piece of the action from local contracted players.
it is test cricket that already must be looking for a way to save itself. by the next 2 years test cricket manned by no name second class players in all cases save the english and Oz, wont be worth the time of day as a spectacle worth paying to watch with money and time.
test cricket must be reduced to save itself. it must become a true contest infrequent enough to keep up interest in it globally..while cricket is played frequently at levels and in formats that interest the world.
I dont like T20 cricket. never have! but I would be a fool in the face of facts not to see that the game must evolve to survive. and that is exactly what is taking place. save the ICC is blind to the real nature of this development.
that's very good indeed...bline fools! I am looking forward to their faces in extreme puzzlement as they are swept over the cliff..."what did we do..... "

"I do think the ECB and the other boards have to grasp that nettle, accept the IPL exists and identify a window for it so we do not always have to manage the consequences of an event which without constraint will continue to grow and move around the schedule. It shouldn't be the most difficult thing in the world. IPL is this dirty great big thing that is not fixed in time and space in the FTP and until or unless the Boards and the ICC get to grips with it, accept that it is here to stay and identify a window of a sensible length for it, it is impossible for any of us to plan."
