Cricket Australia (CA) today advises that Steve Rixon will coach the Australian team for the ODI component of the team’s VB Tour of the UAE.
Rixon will be Acting Head Coach for the ODI against Afghanistan, as well as the three ODIs against Pakistan. Mickey Arthur will return to see the third ODI against Pakistan and resume as head coach for the T20 series.
The plan is part of the Australian Team Performance Review recommendations and the revised broader role the Head Coach has.
In his couple of weeks away from the Australian team, Arthur will use the time to prepare plans for the Australian T20 team ahead of the series against Pakistan and for the ICC World Twenty20, working on team tactics, strategies and opposition analysis.
“Part of the broader scope of the new Australian team Head Coach role since the ATPR was conducted was to have a wider view over the team’s plans and how we prepare and we have a very important T20 tournament coming up,” Arthur said.
“I’ll spend the time away from the team to really hone our T20 plans and study the opposition ahead of the ICC World Twenty20.
“We have great experience and harmony within our support staff group now and I know that Steve will do a terrific job in partnership with Justin Langer and Ali de Winter while I’m away”.
Rixon said that while he was looking forward to the opportunity, that his job was to simply carry on the good plans in place.
“Of course you look forward to opportunities like this; it’s not every day you get to coach the Australian Cricket Team and I’m looking forward to that extra responsibility and working with Michael Clarke,” Rixon said.
“In saying that, my job will be to simply carry on with all the good work and planning that has been done in recent times and hopefully hand back over to Mickey after four good wins.”
While coach, Rixon will act as a selector as Arthur normally would.

I see all that amicky! but do you see my position, really understand it, looked for other critiques of head coaching in cricket to expand your perspective on the issue
I stated that head coachng is a power relation that contains the seeds of decline...absolute power corrupts absolutely. we have already see enuff abuse of players and failures of head coacing and why to justify this point.
I point out that the power relation in coaching has led to so much abuse of young people taht it is at epidemic proproations if all of coachng the world over in all sports. and it is the corrutpion of power relation at root of it
I say there is a plan at the heart of the imposition of the head coach on cricket that involves by the ICC that involves the trung of cricket into some form that supports and agenda that has nuttent to do with the proper development of the game but t suit some goal of our 'masters'
head-coaching is not a natural development out of the game of cricket but of soccer. head coaching has been taken from other forms and imposed on cricket FOR NO VALID CRICKET REASON{S}
if there are valid cricket reasonsfor a head coach can someone list them for me
democracy..participation in ther decision making... shud be more and more inclusive and transparent in cricket. everyone is crying out for that. the head coach makes all this far more secretive in fact, by a concentration of all the power in one place, into 1 pair of hands!
at once the captain, the selection committee, the manager, the scouts..all are neutralised, subsumed into the power of the head coach.
who would do such a thing save a centralisng power that wishes power to be more and more concentrated. but monopoly is the nature of the current social process.
power in all things are now concentrated in few corporate hands. and as we note this fact we see power in all things going the same way, concentraion and monoploly..and the rise of the social concomittant -dictatorship and dictat growing at great pace.
DICTAT: DO WHAT YOU ARE TOLD, DO AS WE SAY, FOLLOW THE RUELS WE SET UP. NO DEBATE, NO QUESTIONS, NO NOTHING!
yu know what...yu guys are totally pacified, homogenised like milk. allyuh have given up, surrendered allyuh critical capacity that nature equipped you all with by the time allyuh reached 10 years old.
school yu see..and religion... did it... does that job on people... pacifies them, take away their ability to think for themselves, to formulate independent opinion on consideration of the reality they have to deal with... with the experience and skills they have had and developed to date
phew!
