Second Vodafone Test: Australia v South Africa at the Adelaide Oval

Gates open: 8am

Session times: 10:30am – 12:30pm | 1310 – 1510 | 1530 – 1730

TV/Radio/Mobile/Online: The match will be broadcast live on the NINE Network, live on ABC radio and live on mobile devices via the Cricket LIVE Australia app, developed by Vodafone, as well as live scores on cricket.com.au.

Serious business starts again tonight.
At Adelaide Oval, the teams will again be greeted by a good batting surface. Life won't be easy for the fast men early on but the pitch will wear and provide some uneven bounce and help for the spinners later on. During the 1980s the venue had the reputation of being a ground where draws were almost inevitable but that is no longer a fair assessment, and only three of the past 20 Adelaide Tests have failed to find a winner. If that trend continues this year, whichever team comes out on top cannot lose the series. And if it's South Africa, the No.1 ranking will be out of Australia's reach

Castle Lager Proteas bowler, Vernon Philander has been withdrawn from the second Test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval, after waking up with a stiff lower back on Thursday morning. Rory Kleinveldt has been named to replace Philander.

Australia won the toss and elected to bat first on a hot and steamy morning in Adelaide. The Proteas have effectively gone in with two changes to the side that drew the first Test at the Gabba in Brisbane, with Faf du Plessis making his debut in place of JP Duminy, and Imran Tahir coming into the XI for the injured Philander.

Team Manager, Dr Mohammed Moosajee said: “ Vernon woke up complaining about lower back stiffness, he progressively got worse and didn’t respond to the treatment from our physiotherapist, Brandon Jackson. He will go for an MRI scan as soon as possible to give us a clearer indication of the symptom.”

South Africa XI: Graeme Smith (C), Alviro Petersen, Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers (WK), Jacques Rudolph, Faf du Plessis, Dale Steyn, Rory Kleinveldt, Morne Morkel, Imran Tahir, Robin Peterson (12th man).

Well as I thought when I watched the action, the playing area looked really small.

This confirms my thoughts:
The construction, to be finished in 2014, has reduced capacity for the Test from about 38,500 to around 20,000.

The building work has also shaved six metres (20 feet) of playing field from the already short square boundaries.
So hold that powerhouse thought

Apart from the small ground SA have issues.

So far they have been unlucky with injuries but they are not the only side that suffers with injuries. But as you see they lack a decent spinner. I mean your spinner, if he is not taking wickets, has got to be able to put a brake on the scoring. I think Oz have basically put at end to Tahir"s test career. Even with the smaller playing area 8 runs an over is ridiculous.

this SA team is the pits to me. I consider it unrepresentative. I don't see that much has changed from the old days, with selection still based on colour, lots of old racist fogeys still in charge..

1 or 2 black players get picked but they seem only tokens.

there is nutten at all I like about SA cricket..not even the black players who got selected save Prince., and they got rid of him as soon as they found the chance. piss on Smith, kallis, Rudolh and all the rest

I will have to take your word for it since I do not follow SA cricket to the extent of knowing what is happening with SA cricket politics.
