Well, I could have simply entitled this topic Angelo Mathews, but given that I had already asked on here what other contributors thought about the prospects of him one day rising to the helm of Sri Lankan cricket on the field of play, I am instead hitching a ride on the cricinfo headline : Angelo Mathews ready for Test captaincy intent on once again talking about the captaincy role (annointed? accursed?) in as wide a context as folk feel inspired to.
At the same time I am also mindful that we West Indies supporting cricket fans are wondering what next for Darren Sammy. Or is it just wonderin' howzdat?
From the choice of words in the title I hope that all the Sammy backers will see that I am not intending for this to be a "bash em up hatchet job" of a topic but one in which we can continue to share our love for this particular aspect of the game. I confess to not having an earthly clue where the topic will lead us, myself included; nor do I have an sinister genda lurking in the background. (Methinks that last sentence sounds like the blind leading the blind???)
Congratulations Angelo Mathews.
Aye, aye I spy a Captain: Crowned today, birched tomorrow?

Congratulations Angelo. So sticking a pin in his career to date:Angelo Mathews will take over as Test and ODI captain from Mahela Jayawardene for the home Test series against Bangladesh. Dinesh Chandimal will be Mathews' deputy but will lead the national side in the Twenty20 format. Lasith Malinga has been named Sri Lanka's T20 vice-captain. The appointments are for a period of 11 months.

Sammy's trumpeters can read the match facts to see how crucial an innings Mathews this was/is for his team. Congratulations Mathews ...with power to add in his career.
