  • “It wasn’t the best series I had in Bangladesh,”

“I am coming off a bad patch. These things do happen. It’s cricket and you’re going to have your ups and downs.

“You’ve got to rebound as quickly as possible and this is a perfect opportunity to do that.

“Hopefully things can improve here and I can kick-start something and build on it.

“When you get the opportunity to cash in you try to make the best use of it

    “I am definitely due.”

Out for 28 today....

I suppose we need to consider his age...he is 33, and given that his foot movement is minimal, he depends a lot on his reflexes, which would be starting to fade soon. It is possible we've seen the best of Gayle already.

But we probably still need to persist with him for now, since the options aren't all that great. Do we go back to the WETT (worst ever top three)?

Here's how the WETT performed in Tests in 2012....

1) Kraigg Brathwaite (three Tests, average 14.20)
2) Adrian Barath (six Tests, average 16.27)
3) Kirk Edwards (three Tests, average 11.66)

If those are the options, then I would like to persist with Gayle for 2013, and take it from there....

Erm well the top three right now is

Gayle
Powell
Darren Bravo

Darren Bravo is a class act while Powell has been better than Gayle, so it's not a matter of "going backwards", if Kraigg has a good season next year i believe he should replace Gayle and let Gayle go back on another t20 tour, Chris's performances in his last three tests have been extremely poor, at least Kraigg got a 50 in his last three, something Gayle never managed despite playing poor opposition.

Gayle in tests in 2012....

Four tests - average 53.

There is still a big difference between gayle and the members of WETT. For starters gayle is the only one of the four to score a test century last year. Replacing him with kraigg would be a backward step and not even otis is that stupid.
Imho gayle is in the test side until the summer at least. Lets see if anyone can challenge for his place then. Gayle averages more than 40 in tests and you dont just discard a player like that. That is why it was such a mistake to drop sarwan....

BWAHAHAHAHAH what a fecking JOKE!!.. you think we're stupid enough to believe that Gayle averaged 53 in tests this year? the man FAILED IN THREE OUT OF FOUR TESTS YOU IDIOT, so don't try and fool us with your biased tendencies, i can't believe one ton and six failures bumps up your average that high, and we all know you have a history of LYING after your shocking behaviour where Rawl Lewis is concerned!!   .

Gayle's return has in the most part been a disaster, he's not delivered at all, at least with Kraigg you'll get a kid who can stick around, Gayle's been hitting two boundries then out quick recently, and it's just not good enough old boy!! 8-) .

I aint holding my breath! Midwifey???
Big Bash League, Sydney Thunder v Sydney Sixers at Sydney, Dec 30, 2012 - day/night (20-over match)
4.4 yorker on the off stump. Gayle looks to swing it away and the ball sneaks past the bottom edge of the bat and hits the middle stump 18/2. CH Gayle b Lalor having scored 9 runs
Looks like Chris meking the call to the emergency services on his own behalf...
Will he score Eleven next time? Or 1 and 1 in the next two games?
I aint holding my breath! Midwifey???

The difference between Gayle and the WETTs is that at least Gayle is an allrounder....

In this match today, Gayle bowled four overs and took 2-17, while Narine could only manage 1-23 from his four overs...so Gayle outperformed Narine today.
8-)
None of the Windies players are batting consistently in this Big Bash...but how are they performing with the ball?

1) Pollard - four wickets, ave 22.75, ER 9.10
2) Samuels - four wickets, ave 25.75, ER 6.43
3) Gayle - three wickets, ave 23.66, ER 6.45
4) Narine - one wicket, ave 136, ER 6.80
5) Roach - one wicket, ave 63, ER 7.71

Gayle is outperforming Narine with the ball in this tournament so far....Gayle and samuels have the best returns so far, while Pollard has been expensive, and Narine and Roach have difficulties taking wickets.
