Former Middlesex, England and Kent keeper batsman has taken over from Hugh Morris.

Interesting choice and do not know much of his background except I am informed he has/ had a City career after cricket.

Good time to take over, he will feel at home at Lords and he would know a lot of Committee members.

Wish him the very best once he takes over in February.

Not sure who else Bally as the press seem to cover who were not in the running!

Downton played 30 tests for England in the 80s.

I suggest that you ask him what light he can shed on the circumstances behind the sacking of his county colleague Mike Gatting as England captain in 1988.
