16 of the 20 english wickets that fell went to Siddle, harris and Johnson......

see that! and Gibson chats about west indian evolution from pace to spin

when Lillee, Thompson, Gilmore and walker tortured west indies in 1976 Lloyd went to look for pace..real pace..for he had come to know that quality pace was and is and always will be the decisive factor in winning and losing in test cricket.

now here comes skunt gibson, with fidel and tino in tow, pontificating on evolution from pace to spin, while dissing all the young potential quality pace in the region, striving for some space and sunlight.

all the teams in the world searching high and low in their nations for quality pace. Gibson disses it, promoting the worst of the lot, discouraging the young and likely

Again there is no good option in the mix. either or... Gibson is an idiot or a saboteur! and it hardly makes a difference which for in either case the result is the same..SABOTAGE of west indies cricket!

But ..but .....Best, Cotterell and Gabriel are the quickest in the region 8-) .

Jason Holder clearly has more control than all of the above, just not the raw pace.

Rampaul is a bowler with good control, IMO Holder equals him, but observe Gibsons use of the former and than compare that with the risk Gibson was prepared to take to have the express pace of Roach on this tour.

IMOHe values pace above control.

As I remember, he had good control and could swing the ball as a player but this policy may stem from of his major shortcoming, lack of pace. The lack of which kept him out of the team.

Without the critical thought of a top coach, he may simply be equating pace with excellence.

:?: Foolish or sabotage, the first one.

Nice one Bally

It's evident from this video that raw pace is only threatening when there is the possibility of serious injury to the batsmen.

This fear is negated as soon as that threat is removed, either through a drop in pace or inaccuracy. Johnson physically threatened each and every English batsman he faced.

The last time they played at the Gabba, he had match figures of 170 - 0, his pace was comparable to now but the inaccuracy almost finished his career.

That highlights package should be essential viewing for the WI management setup. As Sir Geoffrey would say, real pace presents a batsman with a different set of challenges altogether including a severe test of COURAGE.

Unless the Aussies are fools the Poms will not be seeing fast SEAMING wickets on this tour; and they will be looking for glorious sunshine throughout.

Exactly Gils, against hostile, well directed pace, supported by excellent field settings, life and limb is at serious risk against pace. So we get a chance to see who puts a real value on their wicket!!!

So we get a chance to see who puts a real value on their wicket!!!

If I follow the scorecard then the English batsmen placed a greater value on leaving the field with their limbs fully functional and the same number of teeth they entered with.

NONE of these modern batsmen can score regularly from hostile pace bowling, they just don't face it enough of it. Then you have the arm guards, bouncer limit, covered tracks etc etc.

This all means a contest of Bat Vs Ball is now a totally different proposition to days gone by.

"Pace" is only one aspect of good fast bowling!!..if you can't MOVE the ball either side, have good yorkers and intelligence about the areas you're bowling too then games like the recent Australia one are merely a one off!!..where were those Australian "pacers" when England were beating the aussies a few months ago? :?

Also mappy needs to try and understand that CONDITIONS is what plays a part in whether a pacer or spinner will be the match winner!!..England went to India and beat them rass and who were the stars? Broad? NO, Anderson? NO...it was SWANN AND MONTY!!..two SPINNERS!!.
