linkTwo government Ministers and another Member of Parliament were on hand yesterday morning at the Princes Hotel to bid the Ramnaresh Sarwan led Guyana Amazon Conquerors farewell as they departed for the Champions League T20 cricket tournament in South Africa.
Sponsored by the Guyana Government, the National team which won the Caribbean Championships to qualify for the South Africa trip was scheduled to arrive in South Africa today after departing Guyana on a charted flight to Barbados before traveling on to Africa via London.
Sports Minister Dr Frank Anthony and Parliamentarian and Director of Sports Neil Kumar were presented with National caps by the team while Tourism Minister Maniram Prashad arrived just before the team departed the Hotel for the airport.
Dr Anthony wished the team well and told them that the entire nation was supporting them and would be following their progress in South Africa as they aspire to make Guyana and the whole Caribbean proud. “We wanted a name that meant something and came up with Amazon Conquerors which signified where we are from and what we are going to achieve. We are most times linked with the West Indies especially through cricket and this is an opportunity for us to market Guyana to the world as a great eco tourism destination with the Amazon jungle and the majestic Kaieteur Falls being major attractions. We are also going out there to conqueror the world in this tournament. We wish the team every success as you keep the Golden Arrow Head flying high,” Dr Anthony said.
Good luck guys....now go mek us proud
