West Indies Cricket Fans

A new phase of cricket in the West Indies will be unveiled on Monday with the start of the Sagicor West Indies Cricket Board High Performance Centre. The Centre will be based at the 3Ws Oval at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies in Barbados and is geared towards refining the skills and charting the way forward in the development of 15 of the best young cricketers in the region.

President of the West Indies Cricket Board, Dr Julian Hunte, outlined the details behind the Sagicor West Indies Cricket HPC.
“This is a very significant step forward in the future development of cricket in the Caribbean. As everyone if fully aware, West Indies cricket has faced several challenges and we are taking steps to ensure that were harness and nurture the talent that we see in this cricket-loving region. We have assembled an excellent group of young men to form part of the future of West Indies cricket and I want to wish then all the best,” he said.
“Gone are the days when you could dominate world sport on talent alone, so we know that in order to compete with the other teams on the world stage, we have to look closely at the development of our young players, and provide them with the skills and equip them with the tools to do the job. 1) Shamarh Brooks - made captain of Bim, didn't deserve it, dropped
2) Jason Holder - in WI ODI side, badly treated by WI T20 selectors
3) Shane Dowrich - stagnating at Bim level
4) Kyle Corbin - constant disappointment
5) Kevin McClean - no improvement
6) Brandon Bess - strugging to make Guyana side now
7) Ravindra Chandrika - shytehound
8) Veerasammy Permaul - on his way out of WI side
9) Nkrumah Bonner - making slow progress in Jamaica team
10) Andre Creary - where is he now?
11) Kieran Powell - okay in ODis, disappointing in Tests
12) Devon Thomas - mediocre
13) Shannon Gabriel - had a very disappointing run in Tests last year
14) Keron Cottoy - who?
15) Delorn Johnson - shows promise, but ignored by WI selectors

So, you see, four years on, Toby Radford's first intake in the HPC has been very disappointing. Holder has done well in ODIs, but can't make the Test or T20 sides yet. Permaul, Gabriel and Powell were tried in Tests, but failed. Bonner and Delorn show promise, but that's about it.

who selected these talents? no so long ago the resident WICB's BL was singing their praise!

And where are these HPC graduates now?

THIS is what Radford should be judged on...his ability to create new talent, when he was in sole charge of the HPC.

Radford is given the failing mark...and he knew it, so that's why he jumped ship. Before the facts came out and damaged his marketable reputation.

Last week, it welcomed its first batch of 15 players which included former West Indies Under-19 captains Andre Creary and Shamarh Brooks.

Where are they now.

West Indies Cricket Board chief executive Dr Ernest Hilaire said: “Toby worked assiduously in setting up operations at the HPC and contributed significantly to the development of several players. We have seen the results [of his work] in performances of several players in regional tournaments.

Hopefully their absence from the domestic set up doesn't come under results and performance.

A former England Under-19 player and batsman with Sussex and Middlesex, Radford decided to leave the post prior to the WICB’s recent appointment of Desmond Haynes to act as batting mentor to the West Indies Test side

. Where is Desmond Haynes now.

The Academy will operate on the basis of a hub, with five spokes. The hub will be in Barbados and it is proposed that the spokes be in Jamaica, Leewards, Windwards, T&T and Guyana. “The University of the West Indies and the WICB have already signed a MOU which makes the facilities at the 3Ws ground in Barbados available to the WICB. Similar assurances have been given by the governments of Antigua and Barbuda for the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium and with the T&T government for the Brian Lara Stadium. We are pleased to advise that a Caribbean company has now agreed in principle to the sponsorship of the Barbados hub for the first five years and this is likely to be confirmed in a matter of days.
