Brearley said one of the values of sport and cricket was that it is not easy to keep good players excluded indefinitely.
"Skill wins out."

Brearley then linked James to Worrell.
"James said 'once in a blue moon, a writer is handed on a plate a gift from heaven. I was handed mine in 1958. I was immersed up to the eyes in the case for West Indian self government and a little later in the most furious cricket campaign I have ever known, to break the discrimination of 60 years and have a black man, in this case Frank Worrell, appointed captain of the West Indies team'."

James, whose work "The Case for West Indies Self Government" was inspired by Sir Learie Constantine, was very complimentary in his description of Worrell's skill, courage and cricketing brain
Brearley was equally glowing in his praise of the two West Indians

"Creativity, uniqueness and breaking of new ground are required...To be a pioneer, one must become a representative. One has to be oneself. One has to counter pressures to copy or to be merely narrowly orthodox. A new orthodoxy has to be found."

I wrote something on that last week sat but lost it on my laptop and got momentarily fed up with that machine.

good things take place as the world works despite the best efforts of the evil capitalist. Brearly is an intellect and proper intelectualism gives precedence to what is regarded or proven as true.

given what I know of Mike Brealy I expect no less from him..a accurate and honest an impression of his experience as an international cricketer as he could muster. that I belive is what we got from his speech at the event in question

I have absolutely no doubt that Sir Frank Worrell , if he was alive today would be very critical of the modus operandi of the WICB . I am equally sure that he would have seen in the 1980's that unless the WICB acted to ensure that our Part time Players , played more Cricket , so that they could be as competitive as their counterparts in Teams ranked above our Team .

He would have noted the distinct difference between the format prior to the current ICC Format , and point out to the WICB that the current format demands that our Players be properly prepared . This I am sure he would point out means that 1 & 2 weeks Camps is inadequate , so also is having just one or two warmup matches .

had frank worrell lived we would in all probability have not devolved to this current stage of futility. we might have had an entirely dufferent westindies altogether
