PLAYING CRICKET IN ENGLAND ARE FACED WITH A PROBLEM THAT TO A CERTAIN DEGREE THAT THEY

HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL OF . A CLASSIC CASE IS CHESNEY HUGHES , WHO HAS DONE VERY WELL

FOR THE COUNTY HE PLAYS FOR .

If we are very honest with ourselves in the Region , WE MUST ADMIT THAT THE STANDARD OF CRICKET IN

THE REGION IS VERY LOW , THIS THEN BEGS THE QUESTION , WHOSE FAULT IS IT THAT THE STANDARD IS

LOW . ?? . MY PERSPECTIVE IS THAT THIS IS THE FAULT OF THE WICB . WHICH IS SUPPORTED BY ITS

LACKEYS IN THE MEDIA . THESE IN MY OPINION ,ARE THE TWO MAIN CULPRITS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE

CURRENT STATE OF CRICKET IN THE REGION . THE WICB FOR DOING LITTLE OR NOTHING , AND THE

FRAUDS IN THE MEDIA FOR NOT BEING CRITICAL OF THE FACT THAT THE WICB HAS DONE LITTLE OR

NOTHING TO IMPROVE CRICKET IN THE REGION .

THERE IS A THIRD MONSTER THAT IS ALSO AT WORK IN THE SAD , SORRY STATE OF CRICKET IN THE

REGION , AND THAT IS THE REGIONAL GOVERNMENTS , THEY HAVE FAILED CRICKET IN THE REGION , AND

IN THE PROCESS FAILED US . MAKE NO MISTAKE UNTIL & UNLESS THE rEGIONAL GOVERNMENTS STEP IN AND

DEMAND STRUCTURAL CHANGES IN THE WICB OR REMOVE IT FROM THE GOVERNANCE OF CRICKET IN THE

REGION , WE ARE GOING TO BE REDUCED TO PLAYING AGAINST THE CRICKET MINNOWS OF THE WORLD .

But I have digressed , THE QUESTION FACING CHESNEY HUGHES IS THIS , HE IS CURRENTLY PLAYING IN A

COUNTRY WHERE THE STANDARD OF CRICKET IS HIGHER THAN WHAT WE CURRENTLY HAVE IN THE

REGION . ESSENTIALLY HE CAN ONLY COME DURING THE CRICKET OFF SEASON IN ENGLAND , BECAUSE HE

IS UNDER CONTRACT , AND HE IS ALSO HONING HIS CRAFT IN A COUNTRY WHERE IN MY OPINION IT IS THE

BEST TO BECOME A GOOD BATSMAN , DUE TO THE BALL MOVING ABOUT BOTH IN THE AIR AND OFF THE

PITCH . THIS OBVIOUSLY MEANS THAT MIDDLING THE BALL IS VERY IMPORTANT . LET ME ALSO SAY THAT

THE CONDITIONS IN ENGLAND IS ALSO VERY HELPFUL TO BOWLERS .

NOW THE DILEMMA IS THIS ; WILL THE WICB AND THE SELECTORS ACCEPT HUGHES PERFORMANCES IN

ENGLAND AS A JUSTIFIABLE REASON TO SELECT HIM IN A WEST INDIES SQUAD ??? . PERSONALLY I AM OF

THE OPINION THAT THEY SHOULD . PROVIDED HE PLAYS IN THE REGION DURING THE ENGLISH OFF

SEASON . PARTICULARLY WHEN CONSIDERATION IS GIVEN TO THE FACT THAT THE STANDARD OF CRICKET

IN THE REGION IS HIGHER THAT THE STANDARD IN THE REGION . I ANTICIPATE THAT THERE WILL BE

HOWLS FROM THOSE WHO CLAM TO BE CRICKET FANS BUT ARE ACTUALLY FRAUDS .

Well, as for Chesney Hughes, the England domestic season finishes this week, so he will be free to play for the Leewards in October in the one-day competition. The question is, does he want to?

we can only wait and see....

I think that Chesney Hughes should Play , and also find out from the WICB & the Selectors what is his status regarding being eligible for selection to the West Indies Squad . I that the WICB has a rule that states that to be eligible for Selection , a Players must participate in the Regional Tournaments .

Obviously Chesney Hughes has a Contract with an English County , which means that he can only play in the Region when his duty to his County Team are over . Now there is going to be a Regional One Day Tournament , and he can participate in that Tournament .

What I dont know is what happens if due to the Regional schedule next year for all Regional matches take place during the English County Season ???? . Will Chesney Hughes be eligible to be selected . I think that he should be , because the STANDARD OF COUNTY CRICKET IS MUCH HIGHER THAN THE CURRENT STANDARD IN THE REGION .

The other problem that may come into play , is whether Chesney Hughes's Contract with his County allows him absence of leave to represent the West Indies if Selected ???? . In my opinion these are hurdles that have to be cleared .
