Gayle refuses retainer contract

WEST Indies captain Chris Gayle has declined an offer of a retainer contract from the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).

"I can confirm that Chris Gayle has refused the retainer contract and has sent a letter to that effect," an authoritative source told the Observer late last night.

In saying "thanks" to the regional board for the offer, Gayle reportedly underlined the point already made by the WICB that a retainer contract is not a prerequisite for selection to the West Indies team.

However, in late August the WICB also announced that it was reverting to a position of a few years ago which requires players to make themselves available for regional competitions in order to be eligible for selection to the West Indies team.

The West Indies captain missed the regional first-class tournament earlier this year because of a professional contract in Australia.

I told allyuh that having a strong feeling Gayle will not sign on... What now? Should WI drop Gayle and remove him from the Captaincy?

watch Hunte segue into a righteous siege mentality from which he will decimate the westindies side. he will blame the players, call them ungrateful and pick only kids!

that would be the end of westindies cricket right there.

but I am certain that that was the goal from the minute the blac westindies elite ascended to the cricket administration of the westindies 19the mid-ninties...the compltee prostration or destruction of westindies cricket.

these people will not tolerate any mass social vehicle with revolutionary potential in the westindies

Yes....
:(
Remove him from the captaincy is a must, for me. We cannot have a captain who refuses to sign a central contract, because he wants to freelance playing 20/20 cricket for clubs around the world. He should be a fringe player, like Bravo and Pollard, to be picked only when the Windies selectors feel taht they can contribute to the side. But none of that trio should be used as a core group for the WI side until they sign a central contract....

I would like to see a different cappo but I ent going so far. i will not begrudge anyone from looking for their best, making what must be difficult choices in the process.

and by that I mean core consideration

if gayle is in form wants to play and there is no better option the place is his as far as I am concerned. same with all who have done likewise in search for material security in an world in which ones survival depends entirely on their earning ability
