While I agree he should be allowed to retire on his own terms for all he has done, i think he should not wait too long. He should retire in India.

An excellent article, Garfield....
Part of the problem is that Tendulkar has way too much power for an active player. It's well known that the main reason why the BCCI opposes the use of DRS is because Tendulkar does, and when Sachin retires, that's when the BCCI may be more receptive to its use. How can one player wield so much power? Lara never did, Viv never did, Lloyd never did, the Waughs never did, Ponting never did...they all ultimately had to answer to the selectors. Sachin doesn't seem to answer to anybody, and I think that's problem.

The Tendulkar situation is symptomatic of the Indian cultural trait of creating deities of humans, in my opinion. Consequently, both parties are reaping the rewards of what they have sown - good luck to them.
